Prof Chan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Administrative Director of the CUHK–HK Hub of Obstetric and Paediatric Excellence. Her research integrates mucosal immunology, respiratory virology, regenerative medicine, and translational diagnostics. She leads programmes advancing extracellular vesicle (EV)-based biomarkers for paediatric asthma diagnosis and regenerative EV derived therapies for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Prof Chan’s portfolio includes mucosal immunity detection and longitudinal cohort studies in paediatric and adult respiratory infections and vaccination, alongside small molecule antiviral and epithelial repair drug discovery. Her laboratory pioneers age specific and disease specific ALI and organoid models for bronchopulmonary dysplasia, asthma, and COPD, enabling mechanistic insights into host–pathogen interactions with rhinovirus, influenza viruses, and RSV.
She also leads multi centre clinical and translational projects spanning local private clinics, public and private hospitals, and partnerships with Shenzhen Baoan Woman’s and Children’s Hospital, CUHK (SZ), Guangzhou Medical University, Fudan University, and Tsinghua University.
